December 31, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, during a visit to the Haryzont Holding Company in Minsk on December 31, substantially exaggerated the firepower of Russia\u2019s Oreshnik intermediate-range missile recently deployed in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He claimed that a Russian strike in November 2024 destroyed Ukraine\u2019s Yuzhmash plant in Dnipro within a minute. \u201cTo say nothing of how many people died,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukrainian sources said, and satellite imagery showed, that the plant sustained only minor damage. The November 21 attack on Dnipro killed several people in the city, but no fatalities were reported at Yuzhmash itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Available evidence suggests that the plant continues to operate. In mid-December, Ukraine\u2019s Verkhovna Rada approved an extension of \u201cspecial regulations\u201d governing the facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s upbeat rhetoric appears to be linked to his December 18 claim that Russia had deployed the Oreshnik missile system in Belarus the previous day. Belarusian propaganda has emphasized the purported lethality of the new Russian missile in an apparent attempt to intimidate European countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On December 30, the Belarusian Defense Ministry released a 35-second video showing what it described as Russia\u2019s Oreshnik missile system on combat patrol somewhere in Belarus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
