January 8, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> On January 28, the Minsk City Court will open a trial against five Belarusian volunteers of the Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment (KKR), which fights Russia alongside Ukrainian forces, without the defendants being present, the Viasna Human Rights Center reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group includes Vadzim Kaban\u010duk, the regiment\u2019s former deputy commander who now represents the opposition tansitional cabinet on defense and security issues; Alaksiej Kaval\u010duk, an assault trooper at the Vo\u0142at unit; regiment instructor Alaksiej Nazara\u016d; former Commander Dzianis Prochara\u016d; and Pavie\u0142 \u0160urmiej, a member of the command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charges against them range from incitement to hatred and conspiracy to overthrow the government to extremism and terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 2022, shortly after Moscow staged an offensive on Kyiv, Belarusian volunteers formed the Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Battalion, which soon joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and grew into a regiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime declared the unit a terrorist and extremist group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
