January 9, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian Interior Minister Ivan Kubrako\u016d has ordered interior troops \u201cto deploy as much heavy equipment as possible,” including all-terrain vehicles and armored personnel carriers, to assist municipal services with snow removal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The traffic police, placed on enhanced duty following yesterday\u2019s heavy snowstorm, will have access to all available special equipment, he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gusty winds and heavy snowfall disrupted traffic across Belarus, causing power outages in more than 250 towns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agriculture ministry offered 15,600 vehicles, including loaders, tractors and excavators, to assist with snow removal and road clearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minsk Airport deployed 50 units of multifunctional snow-removal equipment, including machines for distributing chemical reagents to de-ice runways and taxiways. More than 220 airport employees are involved in the snow-clearing operations, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, all departing flights from Minsk have operated on schedule, according to the airport\u2019s online timetable. However, arriving flights from Moscow and Dubai are experiencing delays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weather services issued a red alert for eastern Belarus for today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
