Alaksandar Iljukievi\u010d as commander of the Special Operations Forces (SOF), the Belarusian leader\u2019s press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He replaces Maj. Gen. Vadzim Dzienisienka, 58, who has retired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Iljukievi\u010d served as SOF first deputy commander prior to the appointment. SOF specialize in counterinsurgency, scouting and fighting illegal armed groups. SOF troops were involved in the violent dispersal of peaceful protests in 2020, killing at least one protester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dzienisienka is on the European Union\u2019s list of sanctioned individuals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>January 9, Pozirk.
