January 13, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov have discussed the situation in Iran and Venezuela, as well as bilateral cooperation during a phone call, the Belarusian foreign ministry reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomats stressed “the inadmissibility of foreign interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states,” expressing hope for “an early settlement of the situation” in Iran, where mass protests have persisted since late December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What began as a response to the country’s economic crisis soon escalated into widespread demands for the ouster of the government by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Protests spread to all major Iranian cities, while authorities use violence to suppress them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, US President Donald Trump announced that any country conducting business with Iran will face 25-percent trade tariffs. Washington is also weighing potential military intervention in Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
