January 13, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian Nobel Prize winner Ale\u015b Bialacki has condemned the Iranian authorities’ crackdown on protests and urged the global community to \u201cstop the rivers of blood that have flooded the streets of Iranian cities” in a statement published by the Viasna Human Rights Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mass protests erupted in Iran last month as a response to the country’s economic crisis, yet soon escalated into widespread demands for the ouster of the government by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Protests spread to all major Iranian cities, while authorities resort to violence to suppress them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The whole world is watching with great concern and hope today’s events in Iran,\u201d Bialacki said. \u201cI admire the courage of the protesters in Iran, who, despite the mortal danger, stand up for their rights and justice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activist called on international organizations and democratic countries\u2019 governments to make every effort to stop violence against peaceful protesters in Iran. \u201cI urge the Iranian authorities to hear the voice of the people and start negotiations with the demonstrators,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
