January 14, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian human rights defenders have declared nine more people as political prisoners, taking their total to 1,129, says a statement posted by the Viasna Human Rights Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recently added people are serving prison terms on protest-related charges and include Daniel-\u0141andsiej Kejta, a singer in a church men\u2019s choir imprisoned for two years; An\u017ee\u0142a and Siarhiej Sandaluk serving two years in prison each, Ludmi\u0142a A\u016dtu\u0161ka (18 months), Ja\u016dhien Maluhin (two years), as well as Siarhiej Harun, Maksim Le\u016d\u0161a, Mika\u0142aj Voran and Vadzim Karpa\u016d, whose terms are unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siarhiej Sandaluk had reportedly worked as deputy head of the Department of Penitentiary Administration in the past and was convicted in August 2024 together with his wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viasna, Lawtrend, Belarusian PEN, Human Constanta, Belarusian Helsinki Committee, Barys Zvozska\u016d Human Rights House, the Office for Rights of People with Disabilities and Pravavaja Inicyjatyva signed the declaration.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rights defenders demanded the immediate release of all political prisoners and the end of reprisals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
