January<\/strong> 16,<\/strong> <\/em>Pozirk<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusians feel safe in Estonia because diaspora issues are tackled systemically, pro-democracy leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja told Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna at their meeting in Vilnius on January 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEstonians perfectly understand our struggle for freedom and independence because they went through it themselves,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politicians discussed regional security, recent developments in Iran and Venezuela, efforts to secure the release of political prisoners, relations with the United States, joint initiatives in international organizations and the European Union\u2019s sanction policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja stressed that the EU should keep up pressure on the Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka regime to end repression in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other matters under discussion included the operation of Belarus\u2019 democratic mission in Tallinn and its outreach to neighboring countries, cooperation with the Nordic countries, participation of released political prisoners in conferences in Tallinn, plans for a conference on Belarus and efforts to secure international recognition for the New Belarus passport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
