January 22,<\/strong> Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has appointed Juryj Sieliviersta\u016d, who had served as finance minister since mid-2020, as Belarusian ambassador to Russia, Pul Pervogo<\/em>, his press office\u2019s unofficial Telegram channel reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sieliviersta\u016d replaced Alaksandar Raho\u017enik, who was dismissed just after 18 months in diplomatic service and was sent to chair the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee on January 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk-born Sieliviersta\u016d holds degrees from Belarusian State Economic University and the Public Administration Academy. He joined the finance ministry in 2002, rising through the ranks to serve as deputy minister and first deputy minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka has described Sieliviersta\u016d as a \u201ctough, assertive and tireless” person who likes to travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI thought, why shouldn\u2019t such a person work in Russia, where he would need to visit the provinces,\u201d the Belarusian ruler said, stressing the need to expand trade. \u201cYou are fully devoted to these issues and know the main problems in Belarusian-Russian relations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The embassy in Russia is not just an embassy. . . It is a second government because it [Russia] is our main market for exports. It is also the primary country that invests in our country and provides support,\u201d \u0141uka\u0161enka added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U\u0142adzis\u0142a\u016d Tatarynovi\u010d, former deputy chairman of the National Assembly\u2019s Council of the Republic, will take over as finance minister.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
