January 23, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarus\u2019 interior ministry added nine names to its list of extremists, which currently has 6,214 entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of them is Ivan Falitar, given three years in prison in the Bie\u0142aruski Hajun case. He was accused of facilitating extremist activities due to his alleged links with the now-defunct online initiative that monitored Russian military equipment movement in Belarus between 2022 and 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new additions also include Alaksandar Konana\u016d, Andrej Ry\u017euk, D\u017amitryj \u0160y\u0161ko\u016d and Siarhiej Vasiukievi\u010d, who were also convicted on extremism-related charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sentences of Tacciana \u0160\u010datko, Siarhiej Nielipovi\u010d and Jahor Lalko remain incomplete, which means that they may be serving non-custodial terms. They faced charges ranging from calling for sanctions to inciting hatred and facilitating extremism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u017amitryj Spru\u0107, who was convicted of inciting hatred, was exempted from liability because he was deemed mentally incapacitated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People placed on the list of individuals involved in extremist activities are banned from any education- and publishing-related activity, as well as from holding state positions and from doing military service, for five years after completing their sentences or after the related conviction is deleted from the criminal record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their financial transactions are subject to close monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the crackdown on the 2020 postelection protests, authorities in Belarus equated criticism, solidarity, advocacy, the free media and free expression to extremism and terrorism.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
