January 23, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarus\u2019 potato harvest fell by 17.8 percent over the past five years, dropping from 3.7 million tons to 3.05 million tons, according to Bie\u0142stat, the National Statistics Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most potatoes produced in the country are grown in households\u2019 private gardens. Output at state farms declined by 27.4 percent over the period, falling to 379,900 tons, while household production dropped by 20.7 percent to 2.2 million tons. In contrast, private farms reported a 15.9-percent increase in production, reaching 452,300 tons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May 2025, the Belarusian government lifted a ban on potato imports from \u201cunfriendly countries\u201d as it sought to address domestic shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explaining the shortfall, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka said farmers were selling potatoes in Russia, where prices were considerably higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
