January 23,<\/strong> Pozirk.<\/strong><\/em> A court in the Russian-controlled Donetsk region of Ukraine has tried a Belarusian volunteer fighter in his absence and sentenced him to 13 years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hleb Hu\u0144ko, a soldier with the Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment fighting alongside Ukrainian troops, was found guilty of taking part in an armed conflict as a mercenary for his role in combat action against Russian forces from March 2022 to October 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, Ivan Tama\u0161evi\u010d and Kiry\u0142 Ha\u0142avana\u016d, also Belarusians, were given similar terms without them being present at the trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, the separatist Donetsk republic sentenced Alaksandar Dumbia\u016dskas and Jan Dziurbiejka to 14 years in their absence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian government supports Russia in its war of aggression against Ukraine. Around a hundred of Belarusian volunteers have been killed defending Ukraine, said \u015aviat\u0142ana \u0160acilina, head of the mission of the Belarusian pro-democracy forces in Kyiv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
