January 24, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Georgia sharply increased potato exports to Belarus amid shortages of the crop in the country in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia\u2019s potato exports to Belarus rose 30-fold year on year to 3,302.5 tons, worth $1.368 million, from 107.4 tons a year earlier, according to the Georgian National Statistics Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Poland exported to Belarus 6,520 tons of potatoes worth 9.89 million zlotys ($2.71 million) in January\u2013August 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 potato harvest has fallen by 17.8 percent over the past five years, declining from 3.7 million tons to 3.05 million tons, according to Bie\u0142stat, the National Statistics Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most potatoes produced in the country are grown in household private gardens. Output at state farms declined by 27.4 percent over the period, falling to 379,900 tons, while household production dropped by 20.7 percent to 2.2 million tons. By contrast, private farms reported a 15.9-percent increase in output, reaching 452,300 tons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May 2025, the Belarusian government lifted a ban on potato imports from \u201cunfriendly countries\u201d in an effort to address domestic shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explaining the shortfall, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka said farmers were selling potatoes in Russia, where prices were considerably higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
