January 26, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Diplomats must use all available means to secure the release of Belarusian dissidents, including Polish minority representatives, Polish President Karol Nawrocki told journalists yesterday in Vilnius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime is far from any democratic norms, but the practice of negotiating with dictators has a history spanning hundreds of years, said Nawrocki, a historian and former head of the Polish Institute of National Remembrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus is Russia\u2019s ally now and is also responsible for the hybrid attacks on Poland\u2019s eastern borders, yet Poland and the Polish president will always support the free Belarusian people, the politician stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warsaw keeps seeking the release of Polish minority activist Andrzej Poczobut, sentenced in Belarus to eight years in prison in a case widely regarded as politically motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the dissident was honored with the 2025 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought and the Polish Order of the White Eagle, the most important Polish civilian and military distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
