January 26, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Officers of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have arrested at least seven Belarusian nationals during random vehicle checks over the past two weeks, the Association of Belarusians in America (ABA) reported, citing data from the Byaction initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arrests took place in Minnesota, Florida, Illinois, Oklahoma and Arizona, volunteers said. All arrested Belarusians reportedly entered the US more than two years ago and were in the process of legal immigration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

None of them had criminal records and did not expect to be arrested. One was released on bail, while the others are awaiting a decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Byaction has advised Belarusians in the US to be prepared for possible detentions and to secure legal representation. It also recommended arranging for an American citizen or green card holder to act as a guarantor and having funds ready for bail, which starts at $5,000 if the guarantor cannot cover the full amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
