January 30, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>The State Control Committee (SCC) filed 16 criminal cases against five executives of taxi companies and several employees in Minsk and the Minsk region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 4,000 drivers in 16 Minsk-based taxi companies received untaxed salaries, investigators said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taxi drivers reportedly kept cash payments from customers as \u201cgray wages,” which were not recorded in company accounts. When passengers paid for multiple trips by card, drivers were also given money \u201cin envelopes,\u201d using previously cashed funds from the companies\u2019 offices, the SCC said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taxi companies failed to pay over 5 million rubels ($1.7 million) in income tax, and authorities are calculating the amount of mandatory contributions they owe to the Social Protection Fund, the agency noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe suspects, who have been placed under arrest, are compensating for the damage caused. Their property and funds in the companies\u2019 bank accounts have been seized,\u201d the SCC said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
