February 1,<\/strong> Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>The World Taekwondo Council allowed junior and senior athletes from Belarus and Russia to compete under their respective flags, according to the Council’s decision adopted on January 31, which took immediate effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sports officials cited the International Olympic Committee\u2019s (IOC) decision to allow Russian and Belarusian youth athletes to participate in the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games under their national flags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All other existing restrictions remain in force, the Council added, specifying that Russia will be banned from hosting international sports events, while government officials from Belarus and Russia will be denied accreditation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the war in Ukraine began in February 2022, the IOC urged sports federations to ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from all competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, it recommended that some of them could be allowed as neutral athletes under certain conditions, such as not supporting the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December 2023, the IOC allowed neutrals to compete in the 2024 Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
