February 6, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The European Union neighbors have not reported any attempts by undocumented African and Asian migrants to cross the border from Belarus for three days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland has not reported any incidents for 17 days and Lithuania for 16 days. Latvia thwarted two attempts on February 2, the latest such incidents reported at the Belarusian-EU border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Migration has declined sharply as Eastern Europe experiences a much colder winter than previous years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus recorded the coldest January in the last 16 years, while January 2025 was the warmest January since 1881.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of the year, the EU neighbors reported 30 irregular crossing attempts from Belarus with Lithuania recording 15 incidents; Poland 13 and Latvia 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors reported as many as 42,714 irregular entries in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
