February 6, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>At least 1,995 NGOs, including associations, trade unions and foundations, were dissolved between the 2020 presidential election and January 31, 2026, Lawtrend said in a recent report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of last month, at least 1,223 NGOs were ordered to shut down, and 772 filed for dissolution on their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 99 NGOs were shut down in 2025, 382 in 2024 and 336 in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right defenders stressed that at least three representatives of human rights organizations, dozens of civil society activists and at least 19 trade unionists are held behind bars in Belarus in connection with their professional activities and activism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The State Control Committee has recently announced plans for selective audits of NGOs in the first half of 2026. These inspections are not regulated by law, while legislation does not restrict the authorities\u2019 powers to audit nonprofits, Lawtrend noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
