February 10, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has directed officials at today’s meeting in Minsk to launch own production of artillery shells and other ammunition in Belarus, his press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus is building domestic ammunition facilities to meet high demand for artillery shells, he said, inquiring about the progress. \u201cNext year, or even by the end of this year, we must have our own ammunition,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is no secret here. I am not hiding anything. You can see what is happening in Western Europe\u2014Europe\u2019s largest companies are producing more and more ammunition,\u201d the Belarusian ruler said, citing an \u201calarming\u201d military build-up near Belarus\u2019 western borders, particularly by Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Alaksandar Tur\u010dyn, Security Council chief Alaksandar Valfovi\u010d, \u0141uka\u0161enka’s chief of staff D\u017amitryj Krutoj, Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin, Finance Minister U\u0142adzis\u0142a\u016d Tatarynovi\u010d and D\u017amitryj Pantus, chairman of the Belarusian State Defense Industry Committee, attended the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several Belarusian state-owned companies are involved in the mass production of projectiles for the Russian army, the BelPol opposition group said in an investigation released last year. A significant part of the ammunition was reportedly intended for use by Grad multiple rocket launchers, with which the Russian army shells Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
