February 10, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>The Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) faces serious staff shortages, the BelPol opposition group says, citing a leaked letter dated January 28 from MAZ CEO Valeryj Ivankovi\u010d to Industry Minister Andrej Ku\u017aniacou, requesting 397 workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additional workers are reportedly required to help MAZ meet its production targets for the first quarter of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company is seeking workers for 28 different specializations, with mechanical assembly fitters accounting for more than half of the positions. However, the MAZ website lists only 49 job openings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 500,000 people have left Belarus since 2020, fearing political reprisals and for economic reasons, experts estimate. According to the latest report by the United Nations International Organization for Migration, almost 800,000 Belarusians were living abroad in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearly all Belarusian companies face severe staff shortages, D\u017amitryj Krutoj, head of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s administration, told a conference of the Federation of Trade Union of Belarus in Minsk last December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus saw a 1.9-percent excess in dismissals over recruitments in 2025, with 768,633 workers laid off and 754,081 hired, according to Pozir<\/em>k\u2019s analysis of the National Statistical Committee\u2019s (Bie\u0142stat) data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
