February 13, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Recent statements by Russian officials indicate preparations for the final stage of dismantling Belarus’ sovereignty, the opposition transition cabinet has warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The declaration has been issued in response to February 9 reports by Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) and yesterday’s statement by Maria Zakharova, the Russian foreign ministry’s spokeswoman, which \u201ccontained undisguised threats to use all available forces and means, including the nuclear arsenal, to control the internal political situation\u201d in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia\u2019s intentions to interfere in Belarusian politics reflect the Kremlin\u2019s shift toward a policy of open domination, the cabinet said. The Kremlin refuses to recognize the sovereign right of the Belarusian people to determine their own future by claiming the right to assess the legitimacy of Belarusian political actors, it noted. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moscow is signalling that it \u201cviews Belarus not as an independent state, but as its own military springboard and occupation zone,\u201d opposition politicians said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe imperial policy of the Russian Federation and its desire to cement Belarus’ status as a powerless satellite pose the main threat to the sovereignty and independence of our country today,\u201d they stressed.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The policies of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime, pursued to retain personal power, have systematically \u201ctraded away state sovereignty, allowed foreign intelligence services to control internal security and made Belarus a hostage to the Kremlin\u2019s aggressive plans,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cabinet called on Belarusian officials to initiate \u201ca constructive dialogue in a roundtable format,\u201d stressing that resolving the political crisis, ending reprisals and restoring legality are essential steps to building a united national front to defend Belarus\u2019s independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
