February 15, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Moscow welcomes \u201cany constructive initiatives aimed at normalizing Belarusian-American dialogue\u201d and lifting sanctions, but urges its \u201cBelarusian friends\u201d to proceed with caution, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin told Russia’s TASS<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomat welcomed Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s public statements indicating that any potential \u201cbig deal\u201d between Minsk and Washington could be possible only if Belarus\u2019 interests were safeguarded and its cooperation with key allies, including Russia and China, remained unaffected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moscow is confident that any attempts by \u201cunfriendly states\u201d to find loopholes in Belarusian and Russian positions on international affairs will prove futile, given the special nature of bilateral relations, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The US administration has not abandoned its policy of pressure on Belarus, Galuzin warned, adding that Washington\u2019s decision to lift sanctions on the Belarusian flagship carrier Bie\u0142avija was only partial. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The White House is ready to use economic leverage at any time it deems necessary, including by threatening to revoke concessions and reinstate restrictions, the diplomat noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
