February 17, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Prices for many goods considered \u201csensitive for ordinary people\u201d have significantly outpaced officially reported inflation, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has told officials who presented the Council of Ministers’ report on economic results of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI repeat for those who do not understand: people eat food, not statistics,\u201d the politician’s press office quoted him as saying. \u201cTherefore, price controls must be strict, and pricing must be fair.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian ruler described the 6.8-percent inflation reported by the National Statistical Committee (Bie\u0142lstat), which exceeded the 5-percent target, as merely an average indicator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goods export figures were \u201cworse than the previous year\u201d for most of 2025, improving only in November and December, he added. \u201cWe could have been proud of the overall result, having fulfilled the five-year export plan. However, the targets for specific goods that you set for yourselves were not even half-achieved last year,\u201d \u0141uka\u0161enka noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian ruler scolded officials for poor performance on the domestic market, accusing the government of neglecting efforts to cut costs and save money. \u201cWhere are your strategies, aggressive defense mechanisms, advertising and marketing? Losing your own market is a crime. Over the past five years, the share of domestic goods in the domestic market has fallen from 60 percent to 54 percent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka also noted Belarus\u2019 poor performance in scientific research, stressing that \u201cnot even 10 percent\u201d of industrial output can qualify as high-tech production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
