February 19, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarus is currently prioritizing the restoration of \u201cconstructive military cooperation\u201d with the United States and European countries, Valeryj Ravienka, in charge of the defense ministry’s International Military Cooperation Department, has told foreign military attach\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other priorities include maintaining strategic cooperation with Russia, multilateral military cooperation within the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) as well as development of a strategic partnership with China, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given \u201ccurrent global and regional turbulence,\u201d the construction and development of any state\u2019s armed forces cannot be viewed in isolation from military cooperation, Ravienka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European region \u201chas become one of the main theaters of strategic rivalry\u201d, losing its status as a territory with a low probability of large-scale war, a condition that took decades to form and maintain, the official noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ravienka also claimed that NATO is turning from a defensive alliance to an instrument of pressure and intimidation, stressing the rising importance of nuclear deterrence and high-precision, non-nuclear medium-range weapons. \u201cAll this signals a move from peaceful coexistence to a concept of prolonged confrontation,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this context, Belarus seeks to \u201cnormalize the situation in global and regional security, restoring order shared by all,\u201d and to \u201cestablish effective security systems to prevent the outbreak of interstate conflicts,\u201d the official said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
