February 19, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Minsk is concerned over rising military budgets in other countries and opposes troop deployment along the border with Belarus, Valeryj Ravienka, in charge of the defense ministry’s International Military Cooperation Department, has told foreign military attach\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official cited construction of military factories in the West and the arming of troops as other causes for concern, noting that these developments \u201cin no way signal attempts to normalize relations or establish a constructive dialogue with Belarus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus’ neighbors’ withdrawal from Ottawa Treaty, an international agreement that prohibits the use and production of anti-personnel landmines, will harm \u201cfirst and foremost themselves and their own populations,\u201d Ravienka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official described the ongoing Belarusian army drills as a response to \u201cthe actions and aggressive rhetoric of Western countries, which have openly stated that they are preparing for war.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ravienka reaffirmed Minsk\u2019s commitment to transparency in all Armed Forces activities, stressing that while the country is not expanding its army, it is equipping troops with high-tech weapons to maintain strategic deterrence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 36 foreign military attach\u00e9s from foreign countries are currently accredited in Belarus, including ten from NATO member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
