February 19, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d did not travel to Washington for the first meeting of US President Donald Trump\u2019s Board of Peace on February 19 because he was not issued a visa, said the foreign ministry in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, he took part in a literary evening in Minsk on the occasion of International Mother Language Day and Year of Belarusian Woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event had been organized by the foreign ministry together with state satellite TV channel Belarus 24<\/em> with support from the Minsk City Executive Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diplomats and members of the National Commission for UNESCO took part in the meeting \u2013100 guests from 30 countries in total, the foreign ministry said. Ry\u017eanko\u016d delivered an opening speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka himself was invited to the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, but the ruler\u2019s spokeswoman Natalla Ejsmant said that that Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d would represent Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She explained that the invitation had been sent with short notice and complained about the EU\u2019s sanctions banning Belarusian carriers from its airspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On February 26, at a meeting with Sergei Glazyev, state secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, \u0141uka\u0161enka said that he was not going to Washington because of the European air traffic restrictions on Belarus. \u201cIf you wanted to see me there, you should have resolved the issue so that I could fly there and back comfortably,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
