February 23, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>The 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) will hear the Group of Independent Experts’ recent report on the human rights situation in Belarus on March 12 in Geneva, Switzerland, according to the schedule posted on ohchr.org<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HRC is also set to adopt the outcomes of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) for Belarus and 12 other countries on March 18, following the UPR hearings held in November 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UPR for Belarus includes 133 recommendations, to which Minsk should respond within the established time frame, but no later than the 61st session of the HRC, which has started today. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HRC established the Group of Independent Experts in April 2024 to investigate the circumstances and root causes of all rights abuses allegedly committed in Belarus since May 1, 2020. This includes the gender and age dimensions and the impact on victims and survivors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group’s previous report was discussed at the 58th session of the HRC on March 19, 2025, after which its mandate was extended for another year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, Belarusian opposition leader \u015a<\/a>viat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja called for the further extension of the group\u2019s mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
