February 24, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Tbilisi City Court has sent a decision denying asylum to a Belarusian couple \u2014 activists in the Belarusian community in Adjara \u2014 back to Georgia\u2019s Migration Department for review, human rights defender Raman Ki\u015blak told Pozirk.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The department had cited an alleged threat to national security as grounds for the denial, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia has previously rejected many asylum applications from Belarusians on similar grounds, always without providing further explanation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the chances of the couple\u2019s asylum request being granted remain slim, Ki\u015blak said he was encouraged by the judge\u2019s ruling. \u201cThis is a positive trend. Courts listen [to our arguments],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ki\u015blak, the Tbilisi City Court has recently considered seven appeals filed by Belarusians and upheld the asylum denials in four cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No Belarusian applicant has been granted political asylum in Georgia since 2022. In 2025, Georgia expelled six Belarusians \u2014 the highest number since 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
