February 25, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>\u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja, speaking at a meeting of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers in Strasburg on February 25, said that Belarus\u2019 pro-democracy forces are \u201cembedding the values of the Council of Europe into the very foundation of our future state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She promised that a democratic Belarus will abolish the death penalty as the first step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn today\u2019s Belarus, courts are weapons of the regime. In tomorrow\u2019s Belarus, they will be shields protecting the law and human rights,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDemocratic Belarus will not arrive empty-handed. We are building competence, training professionals, forming networks \u2013 now. And people inside Belarus see this. They know that they belong to the European family. They feel that they are not alone. And that<\/em> \u2013  matters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
