February 27, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has met with Belarusian volunteers who fought alongside Ukrainian forces, praising \u201ctheir courage and principled stance in the fight against Russia,\u201d her press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s aide Franak Via\u010dorka and Vadzim Kaban\u010duk, the transition cabinet\u2019s defense chief and former deputy commander of the Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment, also attended today\u2019s meeting in Warsaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBelarusian volunteers have made and continue to make an immense contribution to the fight against Russian aggression,” the politician said. “Thanks to your courage and dedication, the world can see that Belarusians are not accomplices in this war, but a nation standing up for freedom and fighting for the security of the entire region.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting also focused on strategic cooperation with Ukraine and on the upcoming visit of Cichano\u016dskaja to Kyiv, which is expected to take place in the coming months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, Cichano\u016dskaja met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Vilnius for the first time. The meeting and an invitation to visit Kyiv signal a clear shift in Ukraine\u2019s stance, the politician noted, indicating that Ukraine is now prepared to engage with Belarusian pro-democracy forces after years of caution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplying arms to Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
