February 27, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus\u2019 interior ministry added 33 names to its list of extremists, taking the total of entries on the register to 6,353.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rights groups consider five of the recently added persons as political prisoners. Valeryj Chackievi\u010d and Pavie\u0142 Vierasko\u016dski are serving three and four years in prison, respectively. Iryna Minich, Vital Vypra\u017ekin and Natalla Ba\u010durynskaja may be serving non-custodial sentences; however, rights defenders have information that Ba\u010durynskaja was given three years in prison last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These people faced extremism-related charges over alleged links to Bie\u0142aruski Hajun, the now-defunct opposition online project that had monitored the movements of Russian military equipment in Belarus between 2022 and early 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other additions include Alaksandar Sidarevi\u010d, U\u0142adzimir Dzienisienka, Alaksandar Vitko\u016dski, Alaksiej \u010cara\u0161noi\u016d, Andrej Koval, Alaksiej Macukievi\u010d, Ivan Pietranievi\u010d, Ihar Dziehciaronak, Juryj Anisa\u016d and D\u017amitryj Kondrusie\u016d, persecuted for allegedly facilitating extremist activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrej Pisaryk was convicted of financing extremist activities, most likely in connection with donations to opposition initiatives. Dzianis Dzienisienka was found guilty of rioting; D\u017amitryj Kalino\u016dski, of calling for sanctions; U\u0142adzimir Mahrona\u016d, of setting up an extremist group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U\u0142adzis\u0142a\u016d Varonin, Via\u010das\u0142a\u016d Bandar\u010duk and Arciom Alifierovi\u010d faced multiple criminal charges over links to a xenophobic group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sentences of Pavie\u0142 Kniha, Alaksandar Leanovi\u010d, Andrej Ilju\u0161\u010danka, Andrej Pa\u0161kievi\u010d, Alina \u015amiar\u010dynskaja, Alaksiej Haro\u0161ka, D\u017amitryj Kavalenka, Pavie\u0142 Maroza\u016d, Pavie\u0142 Bajaryn and Volha Korbut remain incomplete, which means that they may be serving non-custodial terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blacklisted Michai\u0142 Karol has been released from liability after the statute of limitations expired on the extremist-related charges he had faced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People placed on the list of individuals involved in extremist activities are banned from any education- and publishing-related activity, as well as from holding state positions and from doing military service, for five years after completing their sentences or after the related conviction is deleted from the criminal record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their financial transactions are subject to close monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the crackdown on the 2020 postelection protests, authorities in Belarus equated criticism, solidarity, advocacy, the free media and free expression to extremism and terrorism.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
