March 4, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>New cases of politically-motivated persecution were documented in Belarus on March 3 with new charges against Alena Malino\u016dskaja, who had been imprisoned for four years in a politically-motivated case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The woman is now accused of inciting hatred and calling for sanctions and remains in custody in Minsk, Dissidentby said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Supreme Court heard an appeal by Natalla Ba\u010durynskaja and changed the charges against her from financing extremist activities to facilitating extremism. Given the woman’s poor health, her sentence was reduced to three years of restricted freedom in home confinement, Viasna\u2019s Homiel branch said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In another development, rights defenders confirmed at least 183 arrests over links to Bie\u0142aruski Hajun, a now-defunct online initiative that monitored Russian military activities in Belarus from 2022 to 2025, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The total number of detainees is significantly higher, the group added, noting that arrests and trials are still taking place across Belarus almost every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The information ministry announced extremist content designations for Facebook pages by people\u2019s embassies of Belarus in Slovenia, Montenegro and the Belarusian diaspora in Austria, POLITICNEWS <\/em>and zianon_pazniak_cytaty_<\/em> on TikTok; Telegram channels by Belarusian communities in the Polish \u0141od\u017a, Naviny Future<\/em> on Instagram, \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja<\/em> on Threads, former prisoner and blogger Pavie\u0142 Spiuryn\u2019s email and social media accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities shut down at least 2,012 NGOs between 2020 and February 2026, Lawtrend reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly before the pardon, former political prisoner Viktoryja Kul\u0161a was accused of actions disrupting the operations of a correctional facility, Viasna said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of March 4, human rights defenders identified at least 1,142 political prisoners, but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
