March 4, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Yesterday, Siarhiej Hierasimenia, deputy commissioner for religious and ethnic affairs, presented Brother Aleh \u0160enda, superior of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin (OFMCap), with a state registration certificate, catholic.by<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 1525 by Matteo Bassi as a branch of the Franciscan Order, the OFMCap received papal approval from Pope Clement VII in 1528.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Capuchin community in Belarus is one of the youngest, dating back to 1938. Only two Capuchins who were not priests survived the Second World War and subsequent persecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 1997, the Capuchin Province of Warsaw formed the Vice-Province of Belarus, which was reorganized into the Custody of Belarus in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Capuchin communities operate in Catholic parishes in Hrodna region\u2019s Lipni\u0161ki, Viciesk region\u2019s Dok\u0161ycy, Minsk region\u2019s Ma\u0142adzie\u010dna, Smalavi\u010dy and Kopi\u0161\u010da. The Belarusian Capuchins also have several years of missionary service in Gabon and Georgia to their credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 3,426 religious organizations passed state re-registration in Belarus, with the number of communities dropping 4.6 percent, Chry\u015bcijanskaja Vizija group reported last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
