March 5, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The employment rate for women in Belarus stands at 65 percent with 86 percent among those of working age, while for men this figure is 1.5 percent lower, Natalla Tarasiuk of the National Statistics Committee (Bie\u0142stat) has told journalists ahead of International Women\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most female-dominated sectors in Belarus are healthcare and education, which employ roughly 80 percent of women, but the proportion of women in the IT sector is growing, currently reaching 34 percent, the official noted. Women also reportedly account for 42 percent of Belarusian entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By late 2024, Belarus had a population of 4.9 million women, representing 54 percent of the total population, with nearly 80 percent living in urban areas. On average, there are 1,167 women for every 1,000 men in the country, Tarasiuk noted, adding that while there are 957 girls per 1,000 boys at younger ages, the disparity nearly doubles among senior citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forty-two percent of working women in Belarus have a higher education degree, compared with about 30 percent for men, the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unemployment rate among women in Belarus stands at 2.2 percent and among men, at 2.9 percent, according to Julija Bierdnikava, deputy minister of labor and social protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
