March 6, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, deputy head of the United Transitional Cabinet, played up the exiled Belarusian opposition\u2019s system of political institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe haven\u2019t turned into a network of isolated initiatives, we have created a political entity abroad,\u201d \u0141atu\u0161ka said during the sixth meeting of the EU-Belarus Consultative Group in Brussels on March 6. Evidence of the political weight of those institutions is the reaction of the authorities, which have labeled them as \u201cextremist and terrorist organizations\u201d and carry out extraterritorial repression through in-absentia trials and the active work of state security services, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe regime is using disinformation and discreditation and creating threats to our lives,\u201d \u0141atu\u0161ka said. \u201cThis is unprecedented pressure. The regime is expending enormous resources to fight us. It wants to destroy this political alternative. All this proves that we are a real political factor and actor that cannot be ignored.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka emphasized the importance of sanctions as a tool to compel authorities to change their policies. He warned against engaging with the regime bypassing civil society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka\u2019s speech focused on the United Transitional Cabinet\u2019s long-term strategy, which prioritizes the development of its constituent institutions, the strengthening of sanctions and efforts to engage the regime\u2019s representatives in talks with pro-democracy forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU-Belarus Consultative Group held its previous meeting in June 2025. It was established in June 2023 as a platform for a dialogue between Belarus\u2019 pro-democracy forces and EU institutions. Its meetings bring together high-ranking EU officials and representatives of the United Transitional Cabinet, the Coordination Council and other opposition organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
