March 10, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>\u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has held meetings with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and the president of the Chamber of Deputies (Italy\u2019s lower parliamentary chamber), Lorenzo Fontana, during her visit to Rome, the Belarusian opposition leader\u2019s press office reported on March 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under discussion at the meeting with Antonio Tajani were issues relating to political support for democratic forces, cooperation within international organizations, and contacts within the G7 framework, the press office said. Humanitarian issues were also raised, including support for victims of repression in Belarus and the challenges faced by Belarusians residing in Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja emphasized the importance of preserving opportunities for Belarusians to obtain visas and access humanitarian programs. The politician invited Italy to join the International Humanitarian Fund for Victims of Repressions in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting with Lorenzo Fontana focused on support for democratic Belarus by the Italian parliament and the activities of the parliamentary group For Democratic Belarus, the press office said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants also discussed the “international alliance of parliamentary groups in support of Belarus and the alliance’s forthcoming meeting in London,” as well as the “initiative of solidarity with political prisoners.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Separately, they discussed cooperation with the Belarusian community in Italy, the activities of the Belarusian shelter and the Center for Democratic Forces in Florence, and issues relating to the legalization of Belarusians, the report says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the Group of Friends of Democratic Belarus, Cichano\u016dskaja discussed the geopolitical situation in Belarus, the process of the release of political prisoners, the role of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime in the war against Ukraine, and further steps for cooperation with Italy, including within the framework of humanitarian and parliamentary initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichano\u016dskaja reportedly invited her interlocutors to join events to be held on the occasion of Freedom Day and International Day of Solidarity with Belarus on March 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 9, Cichano\u016dskaja had a meeting with Italian President Sergio Mattarella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
