March 12, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Nobel Peace Prize winner Ale\u015b Bialacki (Ales Bialiatski) and \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s legal adviser Leanid Maroza\u016d had a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker T\u00fcrk in Geneva, Switzerland, on March 12, to discuss Belarus\u2019 human rights record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants discussed, among other issues, the situation of the political prisoners and the role of international mechanisms in defending basic rights and liberties, Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe participation of Bialacki in the meeting was particularly important, as he was recently released from prison and informed the High Commissioner about the situation of people in Belarus, especially those behind bars,\u201d the report said. \u201cDuring the conversation, he reiterated the need for constant international attention to the difficult situation in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maroza\u016d reportedly emphasized the importance of UN human rights monitoring mechanisms for Belarus, describing them as a \u201ckey tool for the independent documentation of violations, ensuring continuous international attention to the situation in the country, and upholding universal human rights standards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On February 26 last year Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d had a meeting with Volker T\u00fcrk in Geneva, inviting him to visit Belarus to familiarize himself with the human rights situation on the ground. Deputy Foreign Minister Ihar Siakreta repeated the invitation during a meeting with T\u00fcrk in November that year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On February 14, 2026, \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja met with T\u00fcrk on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
