March 13, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>New cases of politically-motivated persecution were documented in Belarus on March 11 and 12, with an arrest of a woman from S\u0142onim, Hrodna region, presumably over a reaction to a social media post from 2016, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esthetician Volha Korbut from the Minsk district was likely given a restricted freedom term for allegedly insulting Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and links with blacklisted opposition initiatives, Na\u0161a Niva<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 authorities also kept harassing exiled activists, bringing criminal charges against Poland-based influencer Kaciaryna Vadanosava, widely known for her educational videos on history. Belarusian prosecutors accused her of embellishing Nazism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A judge in Brest sentenced D\u017amitryj Banita to six years in prison without him being present at the trial on charges of inciting hatred, insulting officials, slander, threatening police officers with violence and illegal sharing of personal data, Viasna\u2019s Brest branch said. The judge also imposed a fine of 45,000 rubels (some $15,400).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The information ministry announced extremist content designations for social media pages of the International Society for Human Rights; byaroza_info <\/em>and gomelnovosti33<\/em> on TikTok and Marginez<\/em> on Telegram.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activists from the ProEvac initiative said on Facebook that they managed to evacuate a Bielaruski Hajun case defendant from Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of March 13, human rights defenders identified at least 1,139 political prisoners, but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented. At least 168 of them are in a particularly vulnerable state, including 60 with serious health issues, 26 seniors, nine persons with mental illnesses and eight with disabilities, according to Viasna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
