March 16, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Ghana\u2019s Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa took to Facebook to convey his \u201cheartfelt appreciation\u201d to Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d for his visit earlier this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGhana and Belarus cherish our strong relations, and we are poised to enhance our cooperation, particularly in the area of mechanized agriculture and tractor production, as we aim to anchor President Mahama\u2019s Feed Ghana initiative,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur two countries have also agreed to commence negotiations on a visa waiver agreement, as well as cooperation in education, defense and cybersecurity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ry\u017eanko\u016d met with Ablakwa in Accra on March 4 to discuss preparations for Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama\u2019s visit to Belarus, the Belarusian foreign ministry reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomats discussed cooperation in agriculture, export loans and the establishment of an intergovernmental commission to boost trade and economic ties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus and Ghana have roughly the same area, but Ghana has a much larger population \u2014 35.7 million compared with 9.1 million in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two countries have roughly similar GDP levels; therefore, Belarus\u2019 GDP per capita at purchasing power parity is much higher \u2014 about $32,000\u2013$34,000 compared with roughly $7,000\u2013$8,000 in Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
