March 19, Pozirk<\/em><\/strong>. Belarusian law enforcers arrested four Minsk residents aged between 20 and 28, the interior ministry’s press office reports, describing them as anarchist activists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The arrested have \u201crepeatedly desecrated symbols of Victory and the victims of the Great Patriotic War\u201d at a WW2 monument in Minsk, U\u0142adzimir Harahlad of the interior ministry’s organized crime unit said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official said the suspects used obscene language toward veterans, spat on the monument, and made inappropriate remarks about the war, actions that could amount to denial of the genocide of the Belarusian people. They reportedly filmed their actions and posted the videos on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, the arrested face malicious hooliganism charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the 2020 postelection protests, authorities in Minsk launched a campaign to highlight the genocidal dimensions of massacres committed by the Germans in 1941\u201343.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three years ago, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka signed a law to criminalize genocide denial, while officials and propaganda workers often try to pin genocide on opposition activists by calling them \u201cfascists.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
