March 24, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>There is no alternative to dialogue with the Western countries, <\/em><\/strong>Ihar Sierhiejenka, chairman of the National Assembly\u2019s House of Representatives known for his hardline views, told the state-run SB.Belarus Segodnya<\/em> in an interview.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sierhijenka, a former deputy chief of Belarus’ powerful Committee for State Security (KGB), described the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) as the primary venue for dialogue with European politicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe see our main task as presenting the country\u2019s peaceful foreign policy course, advancing an anti-sanctions agenda and strengthening regional security,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sierhiejenka, however, stressed that Minsk prioritized Belarusian-Russian integration and the Russia-led Commonwealth of Independent States and the Collective Security Treaty Organization as well as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka attaches \u201ckey importance\u201d to this \u201cstrategic vector,\u201d \u201cespecially in the areas of the economy and security,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
