March 24, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Last year, 750 officials, including seven high-ranking figures, were prosecuted for corruption offences, Volha Bachar of the Prosecutor General’s Office has told journalists in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prosecutor cited the case of Piotr Du\u0142ub, a former Belarusian Railway manager sentenced to 11 years in prison, as an example. The man was accused of \u201creceiving a bribe of over $600,000,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Corruption offences make up only 2 percent of all committed crimes, with their number gradually decreasing over the past decade, Bachar said. \u00a0About 1,600 corruption cases were reported in 2015, in contrast to 843 in 2025, she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than half of corruption cases in Belarus involve bribery, followed by theft through abuse of official powers, the prosecutor noted. The Minsk and Viciebsk regions lead in corruption crimes, while the Hrodna and Brest region reported the lowest numbers, she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sectors most prone to corruption include agriculture, industry, transport, construction, healthcare, and education, Bachar said, adding that the total damage from corruption crimes exceeded 16 million rubels (about $5.4 million) last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
