March 25, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>A group of members of Ukrainian MPs has called for severing diplomatic relations with Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement adopted on March 25 on the occasion of the 108th anniversary of the proclamation of independence of the Belarusian People\u2019s Republic (BNR), the group urges Ukraine\u2019s president, parliament and government to recognize Belarus as \u201coccupied\u201d and hand over the Belarusian embassy building in Kyiv to Belarusian pro-democracy forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus is currently under \u201cdouble occupation \u2013 internally by the bloody regime of self-proclaimed dictator [Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka and externally by Russia, which has turned Belarus into a staging ground for destroying Ukraine,\u201d the statement says. \u201cBy maintaining diplomatic relations with Minsk, we are legitimizing a regime that is killing our citizens,\u201d it warns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lawmakers extol the role of the Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment, a Belarusian volunteer unit defending Ukraine \u201cat the hottest sections of the frontlines\u201d since the first day of the full-scale invasion by Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MPs describe the democratization of Belarus as crucial to the security of the entire region, warning that Ukraine\u2019s northern border remains a target while \u0141uka\u0161enka is in power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group calls for tougher sanctions against the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime and accountability for its actions in accordance with international law. \u201cWe trust that the national white-red-white flag will soon be flying over free Minsk again and the border between our countries will become a border between two free European nations,\u201d the statement says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2021, the group, which calls itself Za Demokratychnu Bilorus (For Democratic Belarus), has repeatedly cutting off diplomatic ties between Ukraine and Belarus. The Ukrainian embassy in Minsk continues to operate, while the Belarusian embassy in Kyiv has been closed since March 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
