March 25, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Several hundred Belarusians took part in a Dje\u0144 Voli (Freedom Day) demonstration at the center of Vilnius on March 25 to mark the 108th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the Belarusian People\u2019s Republic (BNR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former political prisoner Pava\u0142 Sieviaryniec, who chaired the organizing committee for celebrating this year\u2019s Freedom Day, called for a minute\u2019s silence \u201cin memory of those who gave their lives for your and our freedom.\u201d Participants cheered loudly and chanted \u201cLong Live Belarus!\u201d as he made a speech, culminating in a pledge to \u201cfight for the freedom of our mother Belarus all our life if necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other speakers included Lithuanian MPs \u017dygimantas Pavilionis, Tomas Tomilinas and Ruslanas Baranovas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the rally, participants marched along Vilnius streets to an improvised memorial to victims of politically motivated persecution in Belarus in front of the building of the Belarusian embassy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
