March 30, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Sustained wage increases in Belarus drive household disposable income growth, supporting further expansion in consumer activity, the Eurasian Development Bank\u2019s (EDB) said in its recent review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February, real wages growth accelerated to 6.5 percent after a 6.3-percent increase in January, the analysts noted. The trend was even more pronounced in the public sector, where wage growth reached 9.6 percent, exceeding the economy-wide average, it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, the EDB linked potential wage growth in Belarus to the 8.8-percent increase in the base rate, which is used to calculate public sector salaries, allowances, taxes and benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January, the analysts predicted annual inflation at 6.9 percent, near the government\u2019s target of 7 percent, citing strong consumer activity, a weakening national currency, import price pressures from Russia and the National Bank\u2019s prudential measures to temper consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
