March 31, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) voted 24 to four with 15 abstentions on March 30 to extend by one year the mandate of its special rapporteur and group of independent experts on Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian government has consistently refused to cooperate with both, complaining of political bias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNHRC authorized<\/a> the mandate holders to monitor developments and to make recommendations on ways to strengthen respect for and protection of human rights in Belarus, to hold consultations with all stakeholders, including civil society inside and outside Belarus, and to submit a report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNHRC expects the group of experts to contribute to accountability and ending impunity for human rights violations in Belarus.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current mandate of special rapporteur Nils Mui\u017enieks is valid until July 2026, and the group\u2019s mandate expires on April 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
