March 31, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Lithuanian national Miroslavas Trockis was given 15 years in prison in Belarus, the Viasna Human Rights Center reports, citing Dissidentby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 35-year-old man was found guilty on charges of espionage and spying activities. \u00a0In the fall of 2024, Trockis reportedly traveled to Belarus to visit relatives but was arrested. He has been held behind bars for 515 days, rights defenders said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities did not disclose details of the case against the Lithuanian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of late January, at least 22 foreigners, half of them Russian nationals, were imprisoned in Belarus on charges widely seen as politically motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nationals of France, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine were also on the list of designated political prisoners. Most typical charges used to persecute them featured espionage, facilitating extremist activities, calling for sanctions and committing terrorist acts. Six foreigners were imprisoned in connection with Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine, while five others were branded as terrorists in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 100 foreigners, including 27 women, have faced politically-motivated persecution in Belarus since the 2020 postelection protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
