April 1, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>New cases of politically-motivated persecution were documented in Belarus on March 31 as a judge in Homiel found Mikita Maroz guilty on extremism-related charges, the Homiel branch of the Viasna Human Rights Center said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case was most likely linked to the persecution of people who shared information with the now -defunct Bie\u0142aruski Hajun online project that monitored Russian military equipment movements in Belarus between 2022 and early 2025. The sentence remains unknown, but it may be non-custodial, rights defenders said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In another development, Lithuanian national Miroslavas Trockis was given 15 years in prison in Belarus on espionage charges, Dissidentby reported. The man was arrested in the fall of 2024, after traveling to Belarus to visit relatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Law enforcers demanded that a former designated political prisoner from Mahilo\u016d, who is currently based abroad, sign a pledge not to return to Belarus, MAYDAY.TEAM reported. The man was reportedly told to take a selfie with the signed document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian officials annulled the passport of exiled activist Eduard Pal\u010dys, released from prison after a recent deal between Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and Washington and taken out of the country, he said on Facebook. Passports of prisoners released in similar deals last year were also reportedly annulled by Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities added one more year in prison for jailed opposition activist Mikita Draniec, who is serving a six-year prison term, a Telegram channel linked to the anarchist movement said. Rights groups consider his persecution to be politically motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrej Ananienka of the interior ministry\u2019s organized crime unit claimed that authorities had eliminated the anarchist movement in Belarus and \u201ctook under control radical soccer-related groups and the fan movement, SB. Belarus Segodnya<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of April 1, human rights defenders identified at least 910 political prisoners, but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
