April 1, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Andrej Ananienka, Belarus\u2019 anti-organized crime police chief, in an interview published yesterday claimed complete victory over the country\u2019s anarchist movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, he said in the interview with the government-controlled newspaper SB.Belarus Segodnya<\/em>, that \u201cthe radical near-football groups [ultras] and the fan movement in general have been brought under control.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ananienka\u2019s Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption (HUBAZiK) was particularly notorious for its brutality during a police crackdown on peaceful protesters against election fraud in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ananienka, HUBAZiK works to \u201cprevent and abort extremist activities by destructively disposed persons and groups of persons taking active steps to destabilize the situation,\u201d \u201cprevent the financing of extremist initiatives,\u201d \u201cpromptly detect and block the accounts of extremist groups,\u201d \u201ccombat extremism in radical society and other groups and in ethnic and religious communities,\u201d \u201cabort Nazism and the rehabilitation of Nazism, the denial of the genocide of the Belarusian people\u201d \u201cand detect and smash illegal migration rings and facilitators.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 police launched its crackdown on followers of the anarchist ideology a few years before the 2020 mass protests, jailing its leaders and activists. Arrests intensified in 2020, targeting prominent figures, such as Ihar Alinievi\u010d, Siarhiej Ramana\u016d, Dzmitry Rezanovi\u010d, Dzmitry Dubo\u016dski and Miko\u0142a Dziadok. Alinievi\u010d, for instance, was given 20 years in prison in a trial behind closed doors on charges of terrorism and arms possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dziadok was released last year in a deal between Washington and Minsk and expelled from Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 anarchists have media outlets, including the Anarchist Black Cross Belarus, which remain operational.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anarchism is a political philosophy that argues society should exist without a central government or imposed authority. It believes hierarchies like the state, coercive governments, or oppressive institutions are unnecessary or harmful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
